Easy 1 mil silver!
Answer the following question correctly and win 1 mil silver!

First correct answer only!

Any combination of 1 pound of dimes, quarters, and half dollars equals how much in US currency?

Disclaimer: my search for a "reliable" source of this information failed- mainly because I stopped looking. This is however, a fact that I learned listening to a radio trivia show.

I will verify that per this particular source http://awesome-facts.net/til-that-a-pound-of-any-combination-of-dimes-quarters-and-half-dollars-is-worth-20/ the answer given below is correct.

HOWEVER I will state that I do not know that this source is accurate and if someone wishes to contest it we will have to look at that response.

It is actually quite easy to verify that 1 pound of any combination of dimes, quarters and half dollars is worth $20. The weights of each of the three coins can be taken from Wikipedia:

10 cents: 2.268 g
25 cents: 5.670 g = 2.5 times 10 cents coin
50 cents: 11.34 g = 2 times 25 cents coin

Note that weight-wise, the coins line up value wise-too, so it is enough to check each coin separately.

Since 1 pound = 453.592 g, then we have for each coin denomination:

1 pound of 10 cents coins is worth: 0.10*453.592/2.268 = $20
1 pound of 25 cents coins is worth: 0.25*453.592/5.670 = $20
1 pound of 50 cents coins is worth: 0.50*453.592/11.34 = $20

Ahh math.
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

I think Dak got it verified either right before or immediately after Dan posted his reply.

approx $453 if you are talking dollar bills
approx $55 if you are talking dollar coins

**approx is because there would be some odd cents involved and since dollars dont make cents, I just rounded down**
